… and wonder what was going on? Don’t worry it was just the kids testing out the lights and sirens of the police vehicle at the Schuhkraft Park Community Open Day! We spent a great morning by the ocean chatting to locals and engraving bikes.
So why do we engrave bikes? We do this to deter thieves from stealing your bike as it makes the bike difficult to dispose of. If you didn’t get a chance to drop by on Saturday and would like to engrave your own bike this is what you should do:
- Make up your own personal identification code. This should be your initials, date of birth and Q for Queensland. Eg John Citizen 01/01/81 would be JC010181Q
- Turn your bike over and engrave the bottom of the frame.
- Apply a lacquer such as clear fingernail polish over the engraving to protect the metal frame.
- Register your code with your local police station. Registering your identification code increases the likelihood of your bike being returned to you if it is stolen.
- You should also keep a photo of your bike and record its serial number to aid in identification.
Once again a big thank you to the Volunteers in Policing and Crime Stoppers Bundaberg for assisting us on the day.
